To identify and promote the expansion of community based innovations termed ‘Bright Spots’ that prevent further land and water degradation and enhance the livelihoods of rural communities in the target countries.
To evaluate salt tolerant plant species (examples: salt tolerant and vegetation for lowering the water table and salinity, such as licorice) and management systems (conjunctive use of drainage and ground water, wheat-rice cropping, and application of water saving methods) that have the potential to increase productivity and income generation on saline soils through farmer participatory trials in the three target countries.
To enhance the capacity of national research and extension services to develop and promote innovative strategies such as small pump systems for controlling ground water levels, farm community based salinity management, etc. aimed at reversing land water resource degradation.
